CYT San Diego Alum Jason Russell and Invisible Children filmmakers will be on Oprah tomorrow!
Jason and IC filmmakers will revisit Oprah for the third time- to discuss the story of Invisible Children as well as their latest campaign, 25. Film Director Tom Shadyac will appear on the show as well. Check your local listings to see when “The Oprah Winfrey Show” will air tomorrow (April 20th).
What is 25 all about? Their website explains:
After 25 years of war waged by Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army, Invisible Children is getting loud… by shutting up. But after the silence ends at 8:00 PM on April 25th (in every time zone), it’s going to get even louder. Break the Silence is happening in 18 cities across the U.S and will mark the end of the Invisible Children community’s 25 hours of silence for 25. Break the Silence will unleash the voices of the thousands who are going silent and who have raised at least $25 to fund The Protection Plan – Invisible Children’s work to protect innocent civilians from LRA violence.”

These young men are exceptional. I just found out about them only because they appeared on Oprah. I wrote a novel about a young student that was abducted by the LRA rebels and sold into slavery. The novel was inspired by actual events. The 2 minute trailer of ‘Nightmare Along the River Nile’ can be seen on you-tube. Thanks to Invisible Children, the plight of the young people in northern Uganda has been further highlighted.
