Months before the auditions for CYT’s “Pridelands,” CYT parent, Tobi Hitchcock, was inspired by the story and the potential for creative, authentic, Broadway-type costumes for our stage.
Tobi enthusiastically approached show director, Starleen Benke, and they began collaborating on costume design, fueled by Starleen’s vision for the show. She recruited another CYT parent, Alan Lehman and his wife Terrie, and made CYT aware of Alan’s tremendous artistic talent and his zeal for working with kids on our stage. Alan comes from a family of woodcrafters, and “making something out of nothing” come naturally! His work will be displayed on our stage in the dramatic headpieces of our lion leads and giraffes, the hand painted giraffe costumes and the “rising sun” backdrop. “By being a part of making great costumes and sets, we’re helping the kids to be successful in a production they can be proud of”.
The work of these inspired parents; joined by the talented and dedicated parents of other cast members and our awe inspiring directing team, have made this the show to be seen this spring!
CYT’s “Pridelands” runs May 25 through June 3 at the Washburn Performing Arts Center at Washougal High School. Tickets start at $9 and can be purchased at www.cytvanport.org or by calling 360-750-8550. Tickets are also available at the door.
